Saab has finally announced the (expected) cooperation with the German supplier ZF today. Starting with the construction of the Saab 9-3 successor, ZF will supply rear axles and chassis parts to Saab. For this purpose, ZF will use its own assembly plant in Halvorstop, about 3 KM from the Saab Trollhättan plant.
ZF will process large pressed parts at the Saab press shop and then bring them to the new ZF assembly plant for further welding work. The close connection to Saab brings advantages in quality assurance and communication and promises just in time deliveries low stock levels and capital commitment.
For the first mail in Saab history, a chassis parts supplier has its production just outside the factory gates. For Mats Fägerhag, Saab Automobile AB's Vice President Vehicle Product Development, the proximity to ZF represents a major step in engineering expertise and is a win-win situation for both companies.
