The successor of the Saab 9-3 is expected at the end of the year 2012. The debut was originally scheduled for October 2012, but could shift a bit. Saab has today confirmed three body variants. The 9-3 successor, based on the new PhoeniX platform, comes as a sedan, as a crossover and hatchback model.
The most important models of the 9-3 series are currently the sedans and estate versions, models that were still developed in GM times. In the Saab heyday, the hatchback shape was the best-selling model, the Saab 900 with the typical tailgate stood like no other variant for the brand from Trollhättan. In addition to the hatchback variant, which is assumed to be a volume model, there is a sedan and a trendy crossover which will have an “X” in the model name as an addition. The crossover model market is still the segment with the highest growth rates, Saab wants a small piece of this cake.
The successor of the Saab 9-4x is expected for 2015, which would be a very short model term of the new Saab from Mexico. The successor is then produced in Trollhättan. All new Saab are powered by Mini / BMW Turbo engines and can be equipped with the Saab's own E-AWD system.
Nothing was said about the small Saab 9-2. The question remains whether there will be a convertible version of the 9-3 successor, this is not yet confirmed. Saab dreams would be. Saab brings after a long wait finally a hatchback variant!
