SAABblog.net: Mission Saab Museum Trollhättan ...

In the middle of the night we started towards Trollhättan. From Leipzig, it continues via Rostock to the north. As always in terms of Saab we are on the way quickly. Because this afternoon we have an appointment with Peter Bäckström, the curator of the Saab Museum.

Then we can hand over the 2010,00 €, or rather 17.000,00 crowns, which sounds somehow more significant, as support from the German Saab community. The largest single donation of € 500,00 came from Kiel from Saab Service Lafrentz, plus many high individual donations not only from Germany. Donations that arrived after April 18.04th, and that is a lot, are not yet included in this amount. We will also transfer you to Trollhättan. A detailed donation report will follow.

But already now we can be very proud of ourselves! We have delivered a clear statement for our cult brand.

The donations are not our only concern, we still have several orders from the Saab community in our luggage.

But that's another story, and we have to see how things develop. So far, I have not met Peter Bäckström personally, but have already heard a lot from him. The tension is great!

Updates follow when we are in Trollhättan and internet access is available.

  • Hi Tom,
Thank you for your great commitment, now also in terms of preserving the SAAB heritage!
A (maybe stupid) question: Has the topic of museum membership ever been discussed in the SAAB Museum? I am familiar with this type of “crowd funding” from my own environment, with which, as a rule, very substantial sums of money come together. With a comparatively low effort for the museum (member receives a treat, e.g. annual access to the museum), an annual influx of membership fees would be guaranteed and a manageable source of income would be created. In my opinion, there shouldn't be a big drop in the income from entrance fees because most of the visitors come from further away and don't stop by more than once a year (if at all). I am thinking here of the typical visitor on vacation. And then there are the paying family members; o) ...
This model is practiced very successfully in museums around the world. Sure, the whole thing has to be managed. And it depends on which candy is linked to a membership (I have some ideas). But I suppose many of our SAAB traveling colleagues were inspired by such a thing. All one thing that would have to be calculated. Anyway, I would be there immediately!

Greetings to Trollhättan and a good return flight in the 9-3 Turbo X (?)!
    Christoph

    • We talked extensively about these topics. The museum has a lot of good news. Everything in detail on Monday. Tomorrow it goes back in the Saab diesel.
      Greetings from Trollhattan.
      Tom

  • Hello Tom, can you still find out what's happening to these Saab cars in the US? Whether these are auctioned there or what exactly with these on 1000 new vehicles happens. Thank you and greetings Simon

  • I am sure that Mr. Bäckström was happy about the 2000 €, and as Tom wrote, there is still something going on. In addition, Mr. Bäckström would certainly be happy about many imitators of this action. It may be that the 2000 € is not much for the maintenance of the museum, but as the saying goes, small cattle are also crap.

  • Tzz… of course, € 2000 is very, very little for the museum.
But even € 2000 is money and the campaign could also serve as a stimulus for imitators ...
Are there such “private” actions elsewhere? Do many Swedes donate too?

But just to complain about it, I think it's a little too far.
(unfortunately I can not speak Swedish and the Google translation of the comments does not make it any easier)

Dear one should thank this gesture thanking (at least but) recognize!

    • Short info directly from Trollhättan:
Mark and Tom were welcomed with open arms and a very warm welcome.
Every donation for the museum is greeted there very much.
The 2 got a private tour of the museum, and Peter Bäckström
took a lot of time for her ... The report will follow in detail!
Tomorrow we go back south 🙂

  • I find the support and motivation of many SAAB lovers and owners great. Especially because in Germany are big well-known car factories. The Swedish car maker is (e) always fighting against big competitors from Germany. and that's why I pay Tom and many others great respect for the work. There will surely be a positive conclusion. Either way.
    Many greetings from Switzerland.

  • Honestly. In less than 2 weeks, the community donates 2000 €. That should be nothing? That should imitate us one time!

  • Stupid, this reader's message is not even. Everyone has the right to be on this
To report a press contribution, positive, as negative. Many posts here in the blog, are not synonymous
always “normal”. Clearly, the sum is compared to the money that went back and forth in matters of SAAB
is thrown (in the museum alone), vanishingly small. You can only do it under the
See aspect of Saab bondage. Another type of fundraiser might be happier
been?! (Continuous donation action, etc.) In addition, it is an action of these blogs, and so without going
not to count on astronomical sums (this information is not available to the ttela readers).
It was Easter in Trollhättan and really has to say, there are certainly very high costs for
the museum on. But the location is quite good (waterfalls, cable car, near the center).
Also, I sometimes think (… that's what Swedes think when buying a holiday home) if they do
Deitschen scho komma, sollns if necessary a bag of gold mitbringa! mvh Matti
Nevertheless: The gesture is okay and anyone who finds it worthy of criticism should do it.

    • Also in Sweden there are apparently people who like to let go of a stupid letter to the editor - see letters to the editor for the article. One of them is upset that the amount would be quite meager - this stupid apparently did not notice that the gesture is primarily important.

It would be great if we could get information from Tom about the status of the selection process in terms of investors at the weekend - it's about time.

Greetings from the Hanseatic city of Hamburg to all SAAB enthusiasts
