SAAB News. I was once a Saab 9-3.

The Swedes celebrate the next days Midsommar. And while things in Trollhättan seem to be a bit tough, more sideways than forward, in recent weeks, BAIC is still catching up. After the launch of the old Saab 9-5 as the new flagship of the Chinese, the Shenbao C60 is coming in the next few months. Based on the Saab 9-3 he disguises his rounds in China. The Autoblog auto.sohu.com has released the first Spyshots.

The final production version will be on display at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November and the market launch will take place at the end of the year. It currently seems that BAIC could win the race and bring its Saab 9-3 derivative to customers before NEVS. NEVS is planning to start production in autumn, and in Trollhättan people are talking behind closed doors about late autumn. Vehicles will not be in the hands of customers until 2014, and BAIC would really be a step ahead of the competition.

The design of the small Saab offshoot is, the photos suggest, to the design language of the Shenbao D series ajar and therefore will not be a big surprise.

Under the hood will be an 2.0 liter turbo with 204 PS to be found. From which source is unknown. Maybe he comes from GM stocks or you can rely on other providers. The knowledge would be an interesting answer to some questions, because NEVS is also keeping a secret about future motorization and the information from Sweden is contradictory. In addition to 2.0T, an 1.8T engine developed by BAIC will follow.

The export of the Shenbao C60 to Europe or the USA is not planned, other Asian markets are well on the plan. The possibility of a C60 encountering a NEVS 9-3 is initially only available in China. Because the owners of Saab 2.0 want to sell their first production there. Maybe it will eventually come to a comparison test in a Chinese car newspaper. Everything is possible in this crazy world.

  • Luckily, you do not recognize the approach of a SAAB car.

  • I also do not know which 9-3 is the base here. I still have a snippet of the then press release of the BIAC deal.

    "...
    December 14 2009, Trollhattan.
Saab Automobile AB announced today that it had closed its doors with Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings Co. Ltd (BAIC) of certain Saab 9-3, current 9-5 and powertrain technology and tooling. Saab wants to assist BAIC to integrate this technology into future BAIC vehicles
    ... "

It seems to me rather the 9-3 I meant. Maybe an insider knows more.

    • No, the first generation (up to 2003) is not meant.

  • Oh oh!
But is the Shenbao C60 also based on the 9-3II ???
All I can remember is that BAIC bought GM's old production line from GM, and that was the 9-5I!
Maybe a crash test will show where possible differences are ...
That is how long we will continue to exercise patience ... until late autumn or 2014!

    Regards
    Andre

    So wait,

  • The camouflage color is very cheap, so you do not see how the car (9.3) was defaced.
