Saab 9-5 OG goes electric

Things that happen in anticipatory obedience to please politics have the potential to become absurd. An example can be seen at the Chengdu Auto Show in September. The Saab 9-5 OG, in China as Senova B70 on the road, is electrified.

Saab never had plans to turn the old platform - it comes from a past millennium - into an electric car. BAIC does it because politics wants it. The data are disappointing. The first parameters and spy shots can be found on Chinese websites.

The Senova B70 BEV, whose electric motor is manufactured by the Beijing Auto New Energy Automobile Corporation, provides 55 PS. The weight of the Saab 9-5 OG / Senova B70 BEV is given as 1.760 Kg. About the possible range nothing was known. You can not expect agility and brisk driving performance and the reaction in China is corresponding.

What motivates BAIC to this construct is clear. The Senova B70 is regarded as a domestic premium product that has been successfully positioned against foreign manufacturers. Tesla is now opening its first stores in the country, the rich upper classes are thrilled, and there is no product from China production that could stop it. The comments in forums and blog are clear. Another product without meaning, designed to appeal to politics.

The career of the Saab 9-5 OG in his second life will not hurt that. The turbo variants sell well, BAIC still lacks the matching EV. In Trollhättan are now 4 prototypes, which should have purely electric 200 kilometers range. The production of the series, it is said, from Sweden, could start when the liquidity problem is corrected.

During the Alemdalensveckan 2014 on Visby, NEVS press officer Östlund recently demanded more funding for electromobility in Sweden. The subject Saab 9-3 EV is not yet through. Sequel follows.

Which achievement is the speech? Rated capacity? Maximum Performance? You're already aware that a Tesla Model S 69 kw has rated power (that's in the papers, not the maximum power that's usually called).

To the NEVS 9-3 EV with a range of 200km - unfortunately not that impressive when you look at the 500km of the Model S ...

Whether rated power or maximum is not clear, there are no data from BAIC yet.

        Hello Tom,

I just wanted to thank you for your day-to-day reports! I'm also one of those who look in here almost every day and hope for good news.

Apart from having a strong SAAB heartbeat in you, you obviously also have the background and the right sources at hand. Considering the amount of time this has to cost you, also thanks to your family, who seems to be willing to contribute this investment ;-))

Keep up the good work, though times seem difficult.

        LG cabriote
