What happens if 3 Saab friends on Facebook plan an event for the 5-year public premiere of the last Saab 9-5 generation? A lot of Saab - crazy people meet in Trollhättan and celebrate the anniversary together!
The 2009-9 NG celebrated its public premiere at the IAA 5, which was also Saab's last major appearance in Germany. A big step for the Swedes, with a new, fresh design that was daring and yet typically Saab. With many innovations that were not previously found in any Saab. Head-up display, lane keeping assistant, active chassis with Drive Sense, Harman-Kardon sound system, parking assistant, new engines from 160 hp diesel to 300 hp V6 with all-wheel drive.
The design found words of praise, the Saab 9-5 sedan was voted the most beautiful new release of the year in Germany. The chances for a great career and a successful Saab comeback in the upper middle class were within one's grasp. It was not meant to be ! Only 11.280 vehicles rolled off the assembly line in Trollhättan.
And, yes, maybe it's the low distribution that makes the Saab 9-5 NG so desirable today. In addition, the fact that we saw the last big Saab from Trollhättan with this car for a long time. Maybe forever. Which is no reason not to celebrate the vehicles and the anniversary.
Kristoffer Bengtsson, Ola Johansson and Oskar Persson as ideas for the event were supported by Marcus Bergfeld, who made the “5 års Jubileum” known on Facebook and also brought saabblog.net on board.
Within a short time, participants from all parts of Sweden contacted each other and met on Saturday in Jönköping to drive to Trollhättan.
Around 30 Saab 9-5 NGs, including the only two pre-series 9-5 sports suits of the pre-series that are legally registered in Sweden, were at the Saab Bil Museum. A reporter team from TTELA was on site to report on the spontaneous Saab event. Time for Saab Talk about the beautiful vehicles that Saab Design have successfully transformed into our time.
Smaller questions and technical problems relating to the cars could be solved on site thanks to Anders Ergermo. After many conversations and plenty of time to take photos, the convoy headed for Stallbacka. In front of the main portal of the Saab plant, even more pictures of the best Saab design in recent years were taken.
The end of the event in Trollhättan was not the end of the Saab 9-5 anniversary celebrations. Inspired by the fans in Sweden, the Dutch spontaneously celebrated their “Saab 9-5 NG 5 års Jubileum”. Great cars, great fans. Our Saab story continues!
