24 years have passed since the production of the film shown here, the Saab Automobile AB. 9000ers parked within sight of tennis courts, happy people waving from a Saab 900 Cabriolet. That's how the early 90ers, and the tennis courts and Saab, really did exist.
Also in Germany one found the Saab 900 Cabriolet and the 9000 in front of the tennis hall. Promotionally placed by the Saab dealer there, drawing magical glances. The Saab 900 Cabriolet was really expensive then, as was the 9000. The customers loved Saab anyway.
Saab was 1991's best hope, the outlook seemed positive. The entry of GM caused financial worries. The Saab 900 Cabriolet already had cult status, the successor to the Saab 900 was secured, from the 9000 CC would soon be a CS.
That money alone would solve any problems was not clear to those involved. Differences in mentality, Trollhättan was for Detroit's manager soon something like the banishment to Siberia. That would not end well, but afterwards we are always smarter.
Saab stood for safety, versatility during these years. And Saab made no compromises at the time. Not just an advertising slogan in the Saab video, but solid conviction, which resonates in conversation with veterans of these years again and again.
Our project to digitize old Saab stripes brings back the good old days. That was maybe not so good. The cars of this era are still on the road, they have become our passion and hobby. For all nostalgia, the Saab story is not finished yet. But that is another chapter. Today, at the end of the day, there is Saab Vintage Cinema. Have lots of fun with it!
