How did I get to SAAB?

My name is Christoph, I am 41 years old and since 2012 enthusiastic Saab driver.

Well, how should I start?

Volvo, ... ..that was the brand from Sweden, which I found great as a teenager. The quality and safety are simply top that enthusiastic. Saab drove only our urban jeweler, the brand Saab was rather unknown.

1993 I made the driver's license and took over the Opel Kadett E year 1984 from my sister. Unfortunately, it was constantly broken and stood a lot in the workshop. After nine quarters of a year I was tired, it had to be something new, something reliable ... it should become a Nissan Sunny N13, it has become a three-door Sunny N14.

After two years, another new Almera N15. In the late nineties I became aware of the Saab 9-5 ... .wow what a car. Ohhh ... in Sweden there is another manufacturer with great safe and high quality vehicles. At some point at the IAA then stood the Saab 9-5 station wagon. An absolute dream car. In an Auto Motor Sport, I then read a long-term test on the 9-5.

The cars from Trollhättan are for people with car sense, every day it is nice to experience Swedish engineering and experience. The spell was sitting.

1999 I got my first company car, then many different vehicles:

Opel Astra G, Nissan Primera, Lancia Lybra, Ford Mondeo and then three VW Golf and finally a Ford Focus. All vehicles were reliable, except for the Lancia but it was all just Klinkenputzerautos without character, to say nothing of a soul.

In the year 2002 Saab then brought the new Saab 9-3 on the market. Horny car ... .. due to the company car I did not need a car, so I drove to the Saab dealer to make at least a test drive. I definitely wanted to drive a Saab. In Saab center Dortmund I drove a 9-3 Sedan 2,2 liter Diesel. ...... .What a great car!

In the year 2010 I fulfilled a long cherished desire for a vintage car. A certain brand was not in the foreground, condition and character were more important. It became a FORD Capri 1B year 1973. This was on a vintage car meeting in Willingen and was in good condition.

2012 I changed the employer. A new car was needed, Saab Automobile just gone broke. Buy Saab ??? Spare Parts ??? Or better a Volvo? Nissan I did not like it after the entry of Renault not so much, besides, they had no more Kombi. I drove to the Volvo / Saab center Rhein Ruhr. There I then looked at several V50er and then he was there, the SAAB 9-3 SC diesel year 12 / 2007 with 150 PS and 71000KM on the clock. Test drive agreed, briefly considered .... Spare parts will be available ... .., since then I'm finally driving a Swedish automobile.

A SAAB from Trollhättan !!!

I do not regret this, on the contrary, I can not imagine another car anymore.
My Saab now has 144000 KM down, repairs: water pump + timing belt, dryer and condenser of the air conditioning and the dual mass flywheel, nothing else.

Average consumption 5,7 liters, it is even less. Triboron since kilometer reading 98000KM always in the tank. I am sure that the connection with my SAAB and I will last for a long time.

I would wish again SAAB`s from Trollhättan ...... .naturally with turbo.

Thanks to Christoph for his Saab Summertime Story! Do you also have something to tell about Saab?

The story of an unforgettable holiday, a restoration, the first contact with the brand from Trollhättan or simply why Saab belongs to the automotive life ...

Whatever it is, write us. We thank you Saab literature and saabigen little things for each published article!

  • Good morning in the round!
Also from my side a -Thank you for this report.
The 9-3 looks really good in the sapphire (or nocturnal) blue with the crystal clear taillights. Regarding the repairs, I would just like to say that we had to fix something similar on our 9-3. “Nothing else”, however, I would not call it, since the total financial expense is around 3000 euros. Basically, Saab DO with Mr. Oellingrath as a good soul is a very recommendable address for Saab lovers. Now that the most financially intensive value preservation measures are behind you, you can easily drive the 9-3 another 120tkm. Of course, I wish you a lot of fun.
It was also nice to read that a reader experience has remained in your memory for years. For me, it was at the time a slogan of a local Saab provider, which, however, only years later found its implementation with me.
I would like to comment on your dream car, the Saab 9-5: That's right! A great airplane: Comfortable travel companion - economical, but nevertheless strong sprinting athlete - generous 'transporter' etc. I would buy it again at any time and take care of the 9-5 in my inventory as best I can.
Have a nice weekend to “everyone” and thank you again to Christoph for reading Saab. All the best.-

  • Hello Arndt, Triboron extends the life of the engine and injection system and other parts.
Triboron ensures less bacteria in the tank and improves combustion. This is also good for the soot filter. You no longer have any deposits with the use of Triboron. My consumption has decreased by about 0,5 liters.
The car runs more smoothly, with about 50 ml of propellant booster in the tank with each tank filling.
My Ford Capri eats with both: engine oil booster and propellant
The engine was previously rinsed by the Saab Center Dortmund with Triboron engine cleaner ... and that on a 43 year old car.
The Capri is now running much calmer.
By the way, my Saab also has the first swirl flaps.

    LG Christoph

  • Hello Christoph, and thank you for the article! I'm interested in the additive, what you use; Triboron. I also found an article on this here in the blog, an update was announced, but I couldn't find it. I'm not sure if such additives are really necessary - OK, obviously you get a lower consumption, but isn't there a risk of deposits after a certain time? Or can such additives possibly increase the engine life? Apparently there is no definitive answer to such questions, rather individual opinions and a few tests. In any case, have fun with your 9-3 and see you soon. Greetings, Arndt

  • Great story! A SAAB is always a good decision
