SAAB Dates May 2018
The 3rd Hamburg Saab meeting takes place in May at the historic large petrol station in Brandshof. Under the motto “The Scandinavians are coming…” the team from the petrol station is looking forward to many vehicles from the small cult brand from Trollhättan. SAAB meeting BI / OWL
Dear Saab friends, it is time to announce the details of the May meeting, let's start with the simple, so the date ... ..
Our Saab meeting BI / OWL in May 2018 will take place on Saturday, May 26th 2018!
On that day, the 4th Saab Saturday Osnabrück will take place in OS: Some of us were there last year and want to go there again this year. It would of course be nice if we came together as a Saab BI / OWL meeting. So if you have the time and inclination, meet us on Saturday, May 26.05.2018th, 13 at 128 p.m. in the parking lot (which will hopefully be open) of the disco "Hyde Park", Fürstenauer Weg XNUMX in Osnabrück. From there, the event site is practically around the corner. Everyone can decide for themselves who stays and how long.
At 18 p.m. we booked seats in the OERKENKRUG guest house, Vilsendorfer Str. 97, 33739 Bielefeld. Last summer we spent a nice evening there in the beer garden and this year the host is keeping a large table in the beer garden free for us - if the weather is bad, we're inside. As always, the request to register in the forum - this time please with 2 pieces of information: who will be in OS at 13 p.m., who will be in the Oerkenkrug at 18 p.m.
We are looking forward to meeting our forum colleagues in OS, lots of nice old and newer Saab and nice conversations - and as a nice end of the day then a nice round in the Oerkenkrug in good company. So hopefully see you safe and sound on May 26th.
Until then, all best regards Olaf & Thomas

... it wasn't that easy after all! The Safir was designed by the Swedish engineer Anders J. Anderson who was employed by the Bücker company in the 30s-40s, where he designed the B181 Bestmann. About 3000 of these were built in Sweden as early as the 40s under license from the companies Häglund and Söner with the designation SK15 or 25. The Safir should be a further development of the Bü181. But developing and improving what is good is a core competence at SAAB (see Turbo).
Incidentally, the SAAB 29 Tunnan is based on a Messerschmidt project (P.1100.) With which an engineer from the Messerschmidtwerke relocated to Sweden after the 2.WK.
Interesting info. Thank you!
I also did not want to discredit the achievements of that time. on the contrary.
What I meant by “fascinating” is that the ability or innovative inspiration of individual designers and tinkerers was actually decisive. That you could still name designers at that time ...
For example, Anders J. Anderson. Or about a Victor Hasselblad. Or, or, or. These were very, very good times for resourceful Swedes.
Often it was the combination of ingenious reduction and high quality that made the products world famous. For example, Husqvarna, who designed the first 4 cycle engine, a lightweight 1 motorcycle cylinder, without oil pump.
Times and the world have changed. Today I can no longer imagine a new Swedish family company that could become the market leader in the future or at least achieve world fame ...
Measured by the number of inhabitants, Sweden produced a surprising number of them in the past. Even more astonishing: the way to the world market often went through the local and national market. It was small, but still lucrative enough to get started ...
As I said, other times. Fascinating from today's perspective.
yes, yes, I think it's exciting to be able to follow the story and to have names of those responsible. Today, nobody ever wants to be if it does not work out.
By the way, the revolutionary 181 was the pilot and student pilot sitting side by side for the first time.
The recycling of German know-how after WWII took place all over the world ... just as talent from all over the world was attracted to Germany before the war.
Also interesting information! Thank you.
In addition to the story itself, I'm also interested in whether and possibly what you could possibly learn from it for the present and the future.
Unfortunately, that goes (far) beyond our reader communication in the context of a brand-specific blog ...
It seems to me that there is a compulsion to be complex today. Whatever. And it seems to me that efficiency is getting more and more under the wheels. Any example: A Tesla X with maximum battery capacity now weighs four times (!) What the average post-war Swede put on its wheels ...
The requirements are still (almost) identical. Up to 4 or 5 passengers with more or less luggage should be brought from A to B, protected from the weather. Often only one person without luggage. The idea that a four times heavier vehicle could do this more efficiently and in a more environmentally friendly way is simply not possible ...
... although there are almost 70 years of progress in between. Or is that exactly why? There are also 70 years of economic interests or (societal) political constraints between the two concepts.
Well, as I said, no topic for here and now ...
A Saab 91 Safir will be us, the Saab Friends Erftkreis, at this year's Troll Rally on the summer weekend of the 10. to 13. May 2018 at Burg Obbendorf in Niederzier-Hambach exhibit. If you want to visit the Swedish plane in nature in the middle of the castle courtyard (owner is also there), is sincerely invited. So far Saabs are registered from the 1950-ern to the 2010-er. 41. Troll rally and the 40. Club anniversary, more below http://www.saabfreunde.de and on the May dates in a few weeks, certainly here on the blog.
Nice pic.
By the way, entering “Saab 91 Safir” on Wikipedia is also worthwhile.
Even Lufthansa had two ...
A “shed” and a couple of Swedish engineers used to be enough,
to “play a global role”. Fascinating from today's perspective.
