SAAB dates December 2018

The last Saab calendar for the current year goes online today. The cold days of the year are ahead, and that reminds me of a Saab campaign for the environment. Instead of letting the Saab warm in the morning, and while working on the windshield, the manufacturer first warned to clear the windows.

And because Saab was Saab, there was an ice scraper in a cool design. Only the pictures from our archive have remained. Whether the ice scrapers ever found their way to the customer or dealer is open.

  • Regarding the ice scraper: Please take Orio over urgently ...

Is there actually another Saab stand at the Essen Motor Show?

    • There will be. Hall 2, booth D23, together with Subaru.

        This is exciting …

Are Subaru and SAAB really something like brothers in spirit? Different though, but similar in the respective culture and in a global context with a common intersection? Two manufacturers of good saws, some of whom work on trains and the others on the other hand work equally well on thrust?

I have not yet come to an opinion of my own on the subject of SAAB & Subaru. But I have a weakness for all underdogs and paths that are taken outside of the mainstream ...

I cannot (yet) say whether Subaru will ever convince me or win it over. But I can say with certainty that this SAAB ice scraper would be worthy of a Bentley or other exclusive brands. There is probably no other car manufacturer like SAAB. No one else who would have addressed the masses with intelligent and inexpensive offers and at the same time was so fond of detail and so exquisite in some details ...

Hello Herbert, this sentence ... “There is probably no other car manufacturer like SAAB. No one else who would have addressed the masses with intelligent and inexpensive offers and at the same time was so fond of detail and so overly noble in some details ... I fully accept. For me, my SAAB consciousness started during a summer job in Sandviken in the early 70s with the 90s, 99s ... and I'm still emotionally involved.

If I'm right, then Sandviken is the place of origin of a number of fine and good (Sandvik) tools. Also for processing wood. Your résumé and my rambling comments on saws, cars and ice scrapers really fit like a fist in the eye ...

Chisels, outdoor cookers, rucksacks, tents, clothing, medium format cameras, marine engines, axes and automobiles. Once in good times you have been influenced by Swedish quality and mindset, it is damn hard to emotionally distance yourself from it again. I know that.

        • If you really want to have such an ice scraper, just google for 'the Swedish ice scraper', you will find something comparable. Admittedly mostly in a different color with different (or without) hand protection. SAAB is not on it either, but at least there seems to be a relationship with Sweden ...
