SAAB Friends Thuringia - Spring Departure 2019

It's Saturday, the 04. May. Outside it is snowing and raining all day long. In our WhatsApp group, pics of snowy gardens and bad weather are piling up. No good prospects! It is the day before the spring departure of SAAB Friends Thuringia.

Sunday, it's 09.00 clock. Our agreed meeting point is at the motorway service area Ronneburg on the A4 in East Thuringia. You do not believe it - the sun is shining. You have to have luck! Temperatures are still in the lower single digits, but our Swedish cars are known to have good heating.

Little by little 11 vehicles of the Thuringian SAAB meet friends. Our group consists of 9-3 convertibles, 9000, 9-3, 9-5 and even a Turbo X is included. The field is clear compared to the past exits this time. After coffee, tea and snacks with first talks, we then move on a beautiful route on small country and side roads. The path leads us past Schmölln in the direction of north-east. In Kohren-Sahlis we drive over the market, past the beautiful pottery fountain from the year 1928. On the way are colorful meadows, beautiful gardens and castles like the Castle Gnandstein, It is considered the best preserved Romanesque fortification in Saxony.

After a short stop on a forest parking lot, our Saabs continue in the direction of Ferienpark am Thümmlitzsee.

Not coincidentally, it was planned to meet us a little later SAAB friends from Saxony with 34 very nice vehicles. A successful surprise! The two colonies pass each other, so that they can admire the vehicles of the participants via SAAB 90, 99, 9000, 9-3, 9-5, 9-5 NG to the very rare 9-7X. Then 45 vehicles from Trollhättan meet on the meadow at the agreed meeting place.

During the delicious brunch, many a nice conversation takes place. After lunch, it continues. Our Swedish convoy sets out for Collm. We visit the oldest Linden tree in Saxonyshe is said to be more than 1000 years old. After a visit to the small church and a short talk about the history of Collms and its surroundings, many of us made our way home.

If you wanted, you could end the day with a dinner in Wermsdorf. Then, with the weather still sunny, we started our way home to Thuringia. It was a successful day with a successful mix of culture and driving pleasure. One of the highlights for all of us was the meeting of SAAB friends from Saxony and Thuringia.
