The formulation should be chosen wisely. The last Saab? Or the last Saab new car? The correct description will probably be the last Saab new car produced by NEVS. Firstly, the company has lost its trademark rights in the meantime, secondly it is unlikely that there will ever be another reissue of the 9-3 sedan. Because their roots date back to the year 2002.
However, and you should know that, there are still some genuine Saab cars in Swedish warehouses, produced by Saab Automobile AB, which will eventually appear surprisingly on the market.
The Saab 9-3 Aero Turbo 4 on offer comes from the short-term production of the 2014 model year. According to NEVS, the car was "forgotten" in the factory and rediscovered for the 2019 Saab Festival. Whether the saga is true or not, it definitely reads nicely. At the festival, the company announced that it wanted to auction the Saab and donate the proceeds to a good cause. Yesterday it sounded a little different on Instagram. Part of the proceeds will now be made available to research into sustainable mobility.
One thing is certain, the last Saab produced is a case for the fans. With only 66 kilometers on the clock, it is a new car, and it will be interesting to see what it will redeem. Because the story with the “last Saab” has been played through for years, with completed 9-3 convertibles and sedans, pre-production models and lost vehicles. At some point it could be enough.
The last one produced Saab
What should you know as an interested party? The Saab 9-3 Aero Turbo 4 is very likely the best evolutionary stage in the series that rolled out of the Saab factory. The chassis has been retuned and the details have been fine-tuned. The workmanship is excellent, as a lot was assembled by hand. With the 9 liter direct injection turbo and 5 hp, known from the Saab 2-220 NG, the sedan is well motorized, and with good relationships with the former Saab factory tuner Hirsch, even 260 hp are in it.
But the car also has its peculiarities. The seats come, despite the Saab logo, from the Volvo shelf and could disappoint die-hard fans. Owners who have intensively moved the 2014 Saab in everyday life are not completely satisfied with their quality. In addition, maintenance requires an authorized partner of Orio AB; a simple readout of the fault memory via Tech2 is not available for the vehicle for licensing reasons.
