The corona situation is delaying plans. The development of the new electric cars from Evergrande and NEVS has remained calm in recent months. Short-time work has been announced for Trollhättan until June, and activities in China are now starting up again. Evergrande is now deepening its cooperation with the Benteler Group.

With the acquisition of the Benteler Chassis architecture 3.0 in September 2019, Evergrande gained access to what is probably the most modern architecture for battery-electric vehicles on the market. A few days ago, Benteler received another larger one assignment from China. The service provider also develops the front and rear axle modules for electric middle and upper class vehicles from Evergrande.

Details of the schedule and scope of the assignment were not disclosed. Evergrande's first electric car with the designation "Hengchi 1" should be presented in the first half of 2020. It is likely that the presentation will be postponed to a later point in the year due to the current COVID-19 situation.

All major auto shows in China have been canceled or rescheduled. However, it is still unclear whether they will actually take place. Another uncertainty is the development of the markets in the future. In the Middle Kingdom, new car sales are starting surprisingly well. It remains to be seen whether this development will be sustainable. The sale of vehicles with purely electric drives is also questionable, and is developing cautiously despite extended subsidies.

  • I don't even think that the name is so bad now. In this country, people have also got used to Mitsubishi, Daihatsu, Hyundai and many other foreign-sounding brand names.
    If the product is good, the name does not necessarily have to become a negative attribute, as is currently the case with Chinese tires, for example (which is why some have an 'unsuspicious' internationalized name).

    I wonder rather if it is a good idea to simply number the models? In terms of advertising technology, you might be able to do something with the 1 if the car turns out to be reasonably reasonable and reliable. However, I'm not sure whether it makes sense to market a whole model range if you just count through.

    On the other hand, Lynk & Co does a similar thing and assigns numbers, probably after the project has started, apparently not after the sales start. Let's see how things go there when the model range gets bigger.

    • Polestar does and numbered it, VW seems to go in a similar direction with the electric cars. Is a bit bland but apparently a trend.

  • The name is a disaster! The marketing department needs to be on drugs. The real question is whether purely electric has a future. But since the discussion is not sensible and open to alternatives, the chances are not bad.

    Even Tesla was comparatively conservative and acted more like Saab, Volvo, Porsche and others before and shortly after World War II.

    That means that you first looked after the first, second and next model and then made realistic assumptions with experience and reliable figures, expanded production capacities and created new ones.

    At NEVS-Evergrande, the process is exactly the opposite without a historical model. Exciting. One big question mark for me.
