Welcome to the Saab Wonderland

It's Tuesday, just before 9.00:9000 a.m. The XNUMX has a workshop appointment at Saab Service Frankfurt. Not a long deal, I can wait for my car. The weather is not so kind to me. Again and again short showers, now and then a gap in the clouds, then the sun comes through. The yard is full of cars from Trollhättan. I think that's fabulous and I'm going on a tour of the Saab Wonderland.

The colorful Saab wonderland

The wonderland is a big show. The actors are a colorfully mixed troop, consisting of the last Saab that rolled off the line in Trollhättan and the hopeless, for whom Fechenheim is the final stop in car life. In between park those with hope, who are waiting for restoration and who will continue to live with the organ donation of the hopeless.

The stars on this rainy morning are two Saab 9-5 NG Aero. They are brothers in spirit and in paint. Both wear Oak Metallic; the chance of meeting two of these vehicles in this color in one place in Germany is slim. Here, in the wonderland, anything is possible. Even that suddenly nobody will look after the two 9-5 because something much better is rolling into the yard.

My tour continues across the square. A beautiful Saab 99, a 900 in a deep sleep that attaches moss. Right next to it is a 96, which tells with fine little details how much attention to detail the trolls built their cars with. Every now and then a 900 II, a 9-5 and a couple of 9000. Most of them will lose their lives, the slaughter has already started. Many parts for the classics are no longer available in Sweden, the only thing that helps is donating organs so that a few more Saab can stay on the road.

The transporter

In the former car wash, lots of gearboxes and motors are stored, and what I brought with me that morning with the 9000. Spare parts transfer from Barcelona to Frankfurt, in the other direction than a few weeks ago when we shipped parts with air freight promoted. What exactly did I bring to Frankfurt ... I didn't ask. The 9000 is just the van, the order came from Lizi's garage, and as a transporter you load, you are discreet, you never ask.

While I am strolling through the wonderland, there is a lot of traffic in the front yard. Customers drive up and then disappear again, I think about whether I can bring a deck chair next time and just enjoy the Saab happenings for a few hours. Maybe that would be a business model. Day tickets for Saab crazy people, who could then soak up the Saab feeling for a few hours. The day ticket € 50,00, half a day € 30. A snack at lunchtime and a coffee included.

Then there is movement in the scenery. The two Saab 9-5 NG Aero are pale, the Oak Metallic paintwork loses its color. A Saab 9-5 OG rolls into the yard. No license plates, fresh from the van. Fresh, that's the word of the hour. New car condition, the leather like in the showroom, a pearl from Switzerland. My pulse increases noticeably, and there is this reflex of wanting to have.

But it gets worse!

A few minutes later the next big gig. A 9-3 aero in the US trim. Dutch (?) Customs number, rumbling V6 sound. The car transporter spat him out too. Parchment-silver and in great condition. If I had the choice between the two cars now, it would be very close. But I don't have it. Luckily. Both Saab belong to a Frankfurt Saab collector who is said to have a multi-storey car park full of Saab somewhere in the city.

Fortunately, my appointment is over. I'm beamed out of this Saab wonderland at the last minute. Before I can think about what I have to do to get at least one of these cars. End of the show.

Oh yes. Why was I actually in Fechenheim? A TÜV appointment. How bland. Report follows.

Great article Tom, Hope we will find out somewhere who has this beautiful Saab collection in Frakfurt and who knows; can we visit this collection again?
It is a pleasure to read this post.

Thank you for the happy SAABy Whitsun. This report also gives hope: Hope for enthusiasts who want SAAB and spare no effort in using / looking for / preserving these optical “delicacies”. Wonderful!
I can vividly remember and understand the situation at the dealer yard. During the inspection, I also crept around the other beautiful, desirable SÄÄBE in the yard ... what a great color combination, crazy these rims for the SAAB, great, how well cared for, beautiful overall picture etc. went through my head. Always emotional mental cinema :-). Splendid.
    Thanks to the SAAB rescuers!

The 93 with its color, a dream. Reminds me of my pepper green 93 SC.

      color combination

Nice association. Yes, that would have something, tomato and pepper, old and young, 93 and 9-3 SC side by side in one yard. You have created a beautiful picture and head cinema.

I'm getting hungry right now and I really have to buy fresh green pepper again. A very fantastic spice - culinary as special and unique as only a Saab is in an automobile.

I also have to go to Frankfurt in the Saab Wonderland. Great cars! Nicely written report! Something for the soul at Pentecost.
    Everyone here, happy Pentecost!

Yes, the “want to have”. The effect skips through the text. That's awesome 🙂

Simply wonderful, in wonderland and I will melt away. The 9-3 Aero in the US Trim would have accelerated my pulse dramatically and the want to have already started while reading! Thank you for that alone and have a nice Pentecost Sunday everyone
