Advance notice - Saab 9-3 Aero Cabriolet (2005)

There are automotive moments that you don't forget. When I saw the first new Saab 9-3 Cabriolets on a transport coming from Austria on the autobahn, I thought to myself, what a beautiful, new Saab! The spontaneous enthusiasm culminated in the purchase contract for an Aero Cabriolet. It is another matter that the misery would follow suit.

Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible (2005)

Long awaited, the Swiss supplier DNA Collectibles is relaunching the Saab 9-3 Aero Cabriolet. As usual, this time it comes in a scale of 1:18 and in three colors. A risk that you can take with the 9-5 Aero received for the first time. Probably the plan worked, otherwise you wouldn't go down this path a second time.

The open Saab, which is in Austria Magna is produced in the cult colors Lime-Yellow, Black and Chili-Red Metallic. The edition is limited to 299 pieces each, only 399 pieces of the Lime-Yellow version are available. The first pictures have been published, they show the miniature in the prototype stage.

With the 2005 model year, DNA Collectibles is venturing into difficult terrain. The button war is still raging in the cockpit of the Saab, a challenge for the model builder. Because what looks great in the original must first be implemented on a small scale. High-resolution images show us promising pre-series miniatures, with many small buttons in the cockpit, on their way to perfection. Some things will still have to be fine-tuned, but basically what can be discovered is already popular today.

Many other details, such as the aero rims and the aero trim of the body, are already shown very well. The convertible top is of course particularly attractive. It will be exciting to see how the manufacturer has solved this in detail.

Long wait

Unfortunately, the anticipation for the collectors goes hand in hand with a long wait. If you can still find a place in your showcase for the open Saab, you have to be able to wait. The miniatures will not be available until the 1st quarter of 2022. It is comforting that DNA usually uses the waiting time to refine and mature the models in detail.

You can pre-order your dream Saab in 1:18 scale today. Because each model is numbered and the edition is only on a small scale, the Saab 9-3 Aero Cabriolet (2005) is a miniature with collector's value.

Perhaps the question still arises as to which body color to choose? 16 years ago, Saab saw lime yellow as the new cult color and the successor to the Monte Carlo yellow. The idea hadn't really caught on, maybe the buyers lacked the courage? But for the showcase it would be the splash of color that one had always been looking for.

  • Business idea in 1:18

Maybe someone should offer custom license plates for the models?
What is presented here over and over again usually looks strikingly real. That arouses the imagination. With currently up to 37 degrees here, I would like to buy limes in the Lime Yellow convertible and mix lemonades with crushed ice, cane sugar and mint during the day and drinks in the evening. But the convertible would need an “approval” for this.

  • What is behind the statement "Katzenjammer"?

    • My steel gray Saab 9-3 Aero Cabriolet. The worst Saab I've ever had. A Monday car, Made in Austria.

      • Yes, you really had bad luck! I haven't had any problems with mine ... and he's 16 years old now.

      • Thanks, that doesn't sound too great. Fortunately, that doesn't apply to the entire series, does it?

        • Definitely not. The convertible is a good car. It was the typical new car pain of a Monday car. After 20.000 kilometers our ways parted, the nerves were on edge.

          • Can you certify that the 9-3 II convertible is of better quality than the 9-3I convertible?

            • The question is difficult. The 9-3 II took a long time to get to a good level. In terms of quality, I didn't necessarily find it better, but technically it definitely was. I found the 9-3 I to be very mature and always of good quality. Of course he had the 900 II as a basis, which anticipated the teething problems.

              • From what year of construction can you buy the II as a convertible?

                • I would orientate myself from model year 2007. You don't do anything wrong. Older models only if the care history is really good.

                  • Thanks! So maybe watch an I after all. Visually, I unfortunately like the first stage of the II a little better.

  • All very nice. I still sway. Red or black. They both look great.

  • I can't decide on the color :-)).

    • Since I have an Espresso Black Metallic Convertible, the decision was clear! Although Lime_Yellow would have appealed to me too, but back then I wasn't brave enough ...

    • Yeah, not easy. Buy 3 would be a great picture and ingenious decoration. But it's a little crazy.

  • Hi Tom,

thanks for the tip! I ordered right away!

    Lg,

    Christian
