Once again, the model builders from DNA are daring a Saab icon. After Sport sedan the Saab 9-3 Turbo X sports suit was shrunk to the 1:18 format. A challenge that was met with a lot of love for small details. The Swiss have already looked pretty closely, as you can see.
Turbo X limited to 799 pieces
The pictures now published show the first prototype. A number of details will change before the series, we already know that from other ideas. The Saab already makes a good impression, apparently DNA Collectibles has taken the US model as a model. At least that's what the taillights say, which are more in line with the US than the EU shape.
But let's be surprised what the series will bring.
DNA limited the edition to 799 pieces, less than Saab wanted to build at the time. The Swedes announced 2.000 vehicles, whether these were actually produced is controversial. There are sources that say yes. Others speak of a number that is a few hundred vehicles lower. The only reliable way to clarify this is to take a look at the company archive in Sweden.
Departure for the Saab Revival
For Saab, the Turbo X represented the dawn of a new era. The Saab 9-5 NG and the 9-4x were already lurking in the background when the TX rolled onto the stage in 2008. With the Turbo X, the Swedes wanted to build on the glorious past and the turbo days. It is not for nothing that the turbo ad took on the design of the classic Saab 900. The brand's revival failed when the financial crisis overturned all plans and brought the parent company GM into trouble.
Automobile contemporary history
As a result, the schedule collapsed, the 9-5 NG and 9-4x came too late on the market. The consequences are known. After all, the Turbo X could write some automotive history. He was the first Saab to deliver all-wheel drive in series. It was also the first vehicle in the world to use a Haldex 4 clutch.
The Swiss have also implemented a nice detail of the Turbo X in the small scale. Just like the original, the miniature should also show "ready for take off" in the cockpit display. A tribute to the brand's roots in aviation.
Available in the 2nd quarter of 2022
It will take time for the Saab 9-3 Turbo X sports suit from DNA Collectibles to be delivered. It won't be until the 2nd quarter of 2022. Pre-Orders are possible, and you have to live with higher prices. You will have to transfer around € 160,00 for the Saab.
DNA Collectibles is not alone with the higher prices; other providers have already announced higher prices for 2022. The reasons are the scarcity of raw materials and a weak €, which means that production in China is no longer as inexpensive as it used to be.
