An automotive legend - Koenigsegg Agera RS Gryphon

Koenigsegg builds cars that are not exactly cheap. Depending on the customer's ability to pay, the manufactory can also produce a one-off item on request. The Koenigsegg Agera RS Gryphon is one. With a story that is anything but normal. It started in 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show. There Christian von Koenigsegg showed the Agera RS Gryphon. Which is not a normal Agera RS. But, at the customer's request, got a more powerful engine, among other things. Its story transports the stuff of an automotive legend.

The Agera RS Gryphon was ordered by Manny Khoshbin. The real estate investor is said to have a penchant for extravagant cars, and Koenigsegg is the perfect address. Although the "normal" Agera RS does not exactly have the reputation of being a car with just enough motor, Khoshbin ordered his copy with the engine of the Koenigsegg One: 1. Instead of only 1.160 hp, the flexi-fuel V8 now delivered 1.360 horsepower.

Polished carbon fiber and inlays in 24-carat gold provided the desired look. Discreet, that's for sure, is very different. To round off the big show, there was a matching protective helmet. With visible carbon, 24-carat gold and Gryphon lettering, of course. The Gryphon, that goes without saying, was designed as a one-off and should be delivered promptly after the auto show in Geneva.

But it turned out quite differently.

In May 2017, a Koenigsegg test driver dumped the Agera RS Gryphon in a Swedish ditch. It was wet and the driver had lost control. Annoying, but not the end. Manny Khoshbin and Koenigsegg agreed on a "replacement delivery". The collector got another Agera RS, individually designed for him.

Koenigsegg repaired the Gryphon and stated that he would like to use it internally in the future. Almost exactly a year later he was back. According to unconfirmed reports, it should have been the first trip in the newly built super sports car. It led from Ängelholm to Trollhättan. There Koenigsegg regularly uses the old Saab test track at the factory.

The Agera RS Gryphon crashed a second time.

And what happens is what is incredible. The car crashes a second time and ends up in the ditch again. Not on the test track, however, but within sight of the airfield and on a dry road. The circumstances that could have led to the accident are still unclear. Even if accident number 2 is not as dramatic as number 1, the press speculates about a curse that could be on the car.

Then the Agera RS Gryphon disappears from the scene.

Now he's reappeared. It is for sale in Lugano, the desired price is CHF 4.55 million (approx. € 4.25 million). The condition seems immaculate, you can be sure that the Gryphon has been rebuilt in the factory in Ängelholm according to the strictest guidelines. The Gryphon drove 1.870 kilometers. Fade, that's for sure, was hardly anyone. The price is, by Agera RS standards, not even remarkably high. Normal RS, if one can speak of normality with 25 pieces, are sold similarly. If one is offered.

The history, which is exciting and turbulent, represents Boiler car available to the solvent interested party on request. A copy with a lot of drama and eccentricity. Or to put it another way - the stuff that automotive legends are made of.

The myth of Koenigsegg. Tom tinkers with it. Please don't get me wrong, I like his stories every day.

Funny history - not a toy for the boy

In terms of performance, it doesn't matter whether the road is wet, dry or icy ...

The ideal “driver” for this car would be a mix between Cinderella and Princess and the Pea with a professorship in physics.

I would just sit in the passenger seat and exclusively next to a driver who knows how to read this beast and the road with a sensitive bum, how to dose with an elegant foot and how to master the physics and her clever mind.

This Koenigsegg is a woman's car - somehow. More of a collector's item for men. It can be proven that they can not drive it that well ...

Insoles made of 24-carat, at the latest then I'm completely out of my understanding. I think the company is great, as is the CvK. The only thing missing is the sticker "Your poverty pisses me off" on the boot lid. I don't envy anyone anything, but I think that's too much.
