"Drive my car" - a Saab drives itself into the heart

In July last year we already had “Drive my car” by Ryusuke Hamaguchi vorgestellt. The film is now out in many cinemas and it's time to point it out again. Because "Drive my car" is much more than just a bittersweet road movie in which a Saab plays the leading role. The film has the potential to be film of the year 2022 and maybe even win the Oscar.

The film critics love the work. We almost only find praise in the media for the 3 hours of cinema. The editors of the put it nicely Day indicatorwho speaks almost poetically of the most beautiful hug in cinema history. the SRF sees a red Saab driving straight into the hearts of the audience. the New Zurich newspaper thinks the film is on a journey of discovery through the psyche, and the Swiss media have poetry on their side.

As always, the German portals assess the matter more soberly, less poetically. At least he sees NDR, almost exuberant by local standards, the possible film of the year. And the left alternative taz, a real surprise, finds friendly words with pain, although an old bourgeois burner plays a major role.

A winner of the film has already been determined today. It's Saab, because the red 900, which drives through the world's cinemas into the hearts of the audience, also brings the brand back into consciousness. The movie car may bring back memories, but it can also be a new discovery. Saab, there was something.

Therefore, director Ryusuke Hamaguchi is perhaps the best Saab ambassador the brand has at the moment. If there was a Saab Oscar, he would have deserved it.

I went to see the movie yesterday and I was really excited about it - and I was deeply moved by the plot. A film full of - often - sad beauty and poetry, great camera work and a fantastic score. The final scene of the Uncle Vanya performance (how a play is developed by actors, this film shows very convincingly), in which the role of Sonja is spoken in (Korean) sign language in the film, is one of the most moving scenes for me I've seen in films over the past few years. The film is a masterpiece and it will become a classic.

And the actors: inside could stand next to this beautiful 900 😉

The masterpiece was awarded 4 Golden Globes.
    An unusual and remarkable recognition.

    Yes, thanks for the reminder.

In the background and in supporting roles, Saab are almost overrepresented. But a main role?

That's really special. And I like Far Eastern cinema. It is also cool and bizarre that a left-hand drive 900 takes on the role of a chauffeured limousine in left-hand traffic, if I have that in mind?

I have to see. Absolutely ...

Automobile main role. Pay attention to the fine nuances.

        Tom, your comment confuses me.

Well, a Saab has a leading role in an award-winning film. I think that's remarkable, I like Saab and Asian cinema and I really want to see the film. I thank you for the reminder. Nothing more …

I don't want to have said anything else between the lines ...
Is my original comment now unraveled?

        Oh man ...

Yes, of course, the 900 has the "automobiles (!) Leading role", not THE (!) Leading role ...

I took it for granted to write or understand the comment. But I think I get it now.

Thanks Tom for the great cinematic tip. The film is high on my list. And I'm happy to hand over the Saab Oscar. Saabs also appear again and again in Spanish productions. It couldn't be better.
