It's finally here again. The Techno Classica in Essen opened its doors this afternoon. For the first time after the exhibition of the classic sheet metal had to be suspended in 2020 and 21 due to Corona. Saab is of course back on site and it is the members of the 1st German Saab Club who made the trade fair appearance possible with their commitment.
Construction work was done yesterday and also this morning. In the afternoon, the "Happy View Day" started, as the trade fair company now calls the former press day. Not only the organizers and exhibitors who were allowed to return to the exhibition center after a long time should be happy. Fans of classic car culture will also have missed the Techno Classica, which is starting on a smaller scale than usual this year.
Because some manufacturers reconsidered their strategy and canceled. So the event in Essen has to do without the big appearances of Volkswagen and BMW. Mercedes, which has filled halls in the past, is also not there and is reorganizing its involvement in the classic segment. As a result of the lack of manufacturer support, the Mercedes brand clubs also canceled.
For the trade fair, the absence of the major manufacturers is unfortunate, but at the same time it is an opportunity to rediscover oneself and perhaps reflect on old strengths. Problems such as a lack of manufacturer support are alien to the Saab Clubs. There hasn't been anyone here for more than 10 years who would support anything. You are on your own with the love for the brand and live from the commitment and creativity of the members.
This year, the 1st German Saab Club is showing two special models at the exhibition area in Hall 8 - Stand No. 8-216. The wonderful Saab 99 Turbo from 1978 in cardinal red is an eye-catcher and can be seen in the bodywork pictures. Vehicle number 2 is still covered. Under the cloth is a black Saab 9000 Turbo from 1991.
There is still an opportunity until Sunday Techno Classica and to visit the booth of the 1st German Saab Club.
