Saab meeting in the 3 country corner Austria-Slovakia-Hungary
Even if we are now in the 12th year without a new Saab, Saab continues to connect internationally, we read and follow worldwide posts that write about Saab and deal with Saab. The Saab meetings are also becoming more and more international, participants are taking longer and longer distances to meet. And so it was probably obvious to start a Saab meeting right on the border of 3 countries.

Saab meeting in the 3 country corner
Peter Rusnak from Slovakia and Marika Száraz-Szabó from Hungary had the connecting idea of organizing a directly cross-border 3-country corner meeting at the sculpture park with a picnic table. Advertisements were made via social networks and still relatively analogue via SMS, so August 20 was chosen as the date.
The first participants started arriving shortly before 11 a.m. I came from the Austrian side from Deutsch Jahrndorf and right after the Austria-Hungary border crossing, two Saabs from Hungary came towards me. They turned in front of me and so we drove over the short dirt road to the sculpture park.

The cars then lined up in two rows. After the first greetings, I received a call from a friend from Slovakia, he couldn't find the meeting point immediately, so I drove to Rajka in Hungary.

At the gas station agreed by phone, 7 other Slovakian Saabs were waiting, who then followed me to guide them to the agreed starting point.
After further greetings, some of my recently purchased 9-3 convertible were examined (an extra report on the purchase will follow). After the usual car photos and the inspection of the sculptures and the border history, most of the participants were here for the first time, we took a group photo at the picnic table.

The three-country picnic table
The participants from their respective countries went to their respective corners. The great thing about the table is that 3 countries can come together without crossing the border. Everyone can stay in their own country and still sit at a table with two other countries.

However, it must be said that you can only get to this point via Austria or Hungary. Only fields with no direct routes lead across Slovakia. Then we went in convoy to Rajka for lunch, where we had already reserved. Particular attention had to be paid here, because the group leader had to make sure that everyone was following her and that no one accidentally took the wrong exit at a roundabout and ended up on a motorway that required a vignette.

After a good lunch and a visit to the small animal enclosure with alpacas, ostriches and fawns, a few more participants drove to the castle Moson Hungarian wine where we could learn more about the history of the castle.

After the castle tour, I looked through the small fair around the castle, which took place on the occasion of the Hungarian holiday. A total of 26 cars came to the meeting, 6 cars from Austria, 6 cars from Hungary, 12 cars from Slovakia and two additional participants from the Czech Republic.

Despite the not particularly large number, the model range was nicely mixed, from a 99 to a 900OG convertible, the complete 9-3NG range of convertibles to the 9-3X and Turbo X, and a 9-5NG was also represented. As is so often the case, it was a very fine meeting with really nice people who have really become friends.

No border controls, no fences
The weather gods were also kind to us, because it was cloudy during the meeting, but the rain held back and the convertibles could drive with the top down at a pleasant 23 degrees.
It was also particularly nice for young and old that the meeting took place in 2022, where it is possible to be able to cross 3 countries without border controls and fences at the point. There were also almost no language barriers. There was always someone on hand who, if asked, could translate into the respective language.

We hope to see even more participants next time. The idea of starting the meeting there was well received by everyone and so there are already considerations to either go over to Slovakia next year and see something there or to go over to Austria.
Both offer further interesting points.

Interesting meeting!
Can you please let us know in advance for next year? 🙂
I'll do it, the first time it was more or less an attempt to see how popular it was despite everything. As already written, we will also plan more programs there.
However, I have to say that I wrote that down in the appointments, but somehow it got lost.
Great idea with the 3-country corner! Europe is growing together (also with SAAB) :-).
Thanks to the author for Saab Spirit on Saturday!
