Out for the Sion - the end of the Sono Motors solar car fiction
It's been almost four years since Mark and I were guests at Sono Motors for the first and only time. The people of Munich had announced that they would have their solar car, the Sion, manufactured in Trollhättan from 2020. The plans promised a revitalization of the old Saab factory, additional jobs in Trollhättan and a perspective in the post-Saab era.
In the run-up to the visit, we had to create a questionnaire and submit it for approval. The founders Laurin Hahn and Jona Christians wanted to answer that, as promised. From our point of view, it was about the financing, the Trollhättan location, batteries, data security and updates, and of course the vehicle itself.
The catalog was approved, an appointment with Hahn and Christians was set. Shortly before that, the promise tipped over, the press team was now responsible instead of the founders, but they signaled that they wanted to answer most of the questions. So we drove to Munich on July 9, 2019.
