Dramatic - the Saab time capsule for the model year 2011
More time capsules for model year 2012 are going online today - and for the first time also for model year 2011. The time capsule is particularly dramatic because it represents the upheaval Saab Automobile was in at the time. GM wanted to wind up the brand after lengthy, unsuccessful negotiations. The preparations in Trollhättan had already begun.
Then it went into overtime with Victor Muller and Spyker, which was too short and not very successful. Before that happened, the brand and its latest model, the Saab 9-5 NG, experienced a stalemate. It started with the question of where the new Saab should be produced. The answer at the time was in Rüsselsheim, at the Opel main plant.
Peppered with the addition - if it comes to that at all. Because you couldn't be sure that the big Saab would start.
Time capsule model year 2011
The drama of those days is reflected in our 2011 model year time capsule. The brochure for the Saab 9-5 NG, which has 58 pages, still specifies the Opel campus in Rüsselsheim as the Saab Germany address. In fact, the Saab presence at this location will already be history when the 9-5 finally rolls off the assembly lines after a long nail-biter.
In Trollhättan, however, and not at the Opel main plant.
The enclosed price lists for the Saab 9-5 NG (12 pages), the 9-3 Cabriolet (16 pages) and the Saab 9-3 sedan with the sports station wagon (20 pages) reflect the reality at the time the 9th edition was printed -5 brochure did not exist yet. You name Carl-Benz-Strasse in Frankfurt am Main as the valid address for the German Saab branch.
The brochure for rims and colors for the model year (6 pages) mentions neither Rüsselsheim nor Frankfurt, but Trollhättan and signals upheaval and uncertainty.
Each time capsule has a set of ours (Re)born from Jets Stickers included, we are also adding two variants of capsules for the 2012 model year.
More Saab time capsules are waiting
Time Capsule availability is lower than last week, decreasing from model year to model year as we move further from 2012. 2010, 2009 and probably 2008 will follow, the shelves are empty and we still have real rarities in small numbers. Particularly rare Saab Turbo X brochures, German brochures for the 9-4X, to name just two examples.
In order to make as many Club members happy with a little journey through time, even with limited availability, the sale of each model year is limited to just one copy.

I also consider myself lucky to have caught another 2011! 🙂 I would very much like to have the 2011 9-3 prospectus (outrageously 😉) in addition to the price lists, especially the SportCombi and Cabrio. Is there a possibility? I could also offer brochures from 2003 to 2009 (not all, but from that period, especially for the convertible) for exchange, some I have twice.
