A leap in time with the 9000 CC Turbo - the super car from Saab

At the end of May 1984, Saab presented the 9000 CC Turbo to the assembled press. The reactions were so incredible, something Saab had never experienced before and never again. The Saab 99 was once received more cautiously than enthusiastically and the introduction of the turbo was above all a respectable success.

But now everything was different. There was talk of Saab's super car and euphoria spread throughout the company. The years of departure, progress and great visions began.

Never before had so much been invested in Saab AB's passenger car division. The large technical center in the Stallbacka was built, it was one of the most modern of its kind and the brand produced over 9000 cars a year for the first time with the 1984 debut in 100.000 (102.018). The turbo share also increased continuously and in 1985 every third Saab had a turbo engine under the hood.

Saab's supercar was voted Car of the Year in Sweden (1985), and it rained prizes and awards. The hype at home was so great that fresh used cars were traded more expensively than new cars and new car contracts could be resold.

Today, almost 40 years later, the 9000 CC Turbo is experiencing a rebirth in collector circles. This begs the question, what is legend and reality about Saab's super car?
