Alfa Romeo Montreal – when sports cars were (only) for men

In the automotive history, the Alfa Romeo Montreal is one of the dream cars of the Milan car manufacturer. It's a sports car, with genes that actually come from motorsport and not from the advertising department. The Alfa Romeo Tipo 8 contributed the famous V33 engine, the design was by Marcello Gandini, who also designed the Citroen BX and designed various Lancia and Lamborghini.

With that, the Alfa had the best ingredients to become the poster car for the 1970s boys. In fact, the Montreal made it into many children's rooms, it became an immortal icon and when an orange (!) Alfa Montreal was offered in the neighborhood a few years ago, my fingers twitched. Luckily I was too late, but with bad luck it was exactly this Alfa that made it into my Saab workshop at the time.

There it was, the Montreal, and I could see what I'd been missing.
