Toyota had only been active in Germany for 6 years when the advertisement for the Celica 1600 GT appeared. The Japanese got off to a flying start and shook the German auto industry. Because Toyota, Honda, Mazda and colleagues offered a lot of cars for a few DM. The Asians were also reliable, which made some potential buyers think.
With the or the Celica, Toyota speaks explicitly of the Celica in 1977, the brand had achieved a hit. The sports coupé met the taste of the customers, it was highly attractive and made for conquest purchases. Toyota advertised with its experience in rallying and with technical delicacies. All this at a price that you couldn't get a comparable Swedish car for.
