Presentation - Saab T-Shirt 1947 Trollhättan Born

Our first Saab t-shirt project becomes reality! It might even be the start of a whole series of shirts. What could be more obvious than to start with the year in which Saab also dared to step into the car industry? Previously, only airplanes were built – as is still successfully done today.

We start today with the Saab T-shirt 1947 Trollhattan Born, which will be available to order in our shop next week. In the run-up, we thought a lot about the shirts and their production. We searched and checked, washed extensively and let the tumble dryer glow. Even the question of production was not an easy subject.

Saab T-Shirt 1947 Trollhättan Born

February 27, 1947 is considered the official date of birth of the Saab car brand. Actually it was a formality, because you had been working on the car topic for 3 years (Link). But 1947 was the starting point when everything became public and the Swedes got a new car brand.

It became a cult and a drama at the same time, which nobody could have guessed at the time. After we were already covered with a woolen blanket (Link) have honored the beginnings in historical design, we now dare to tackle the T-shirts.

the saab shirt, 1947 Trollhattan Born, could be the start of a series. We are already working on another shirt that deals with a more recent Saab model and will be online soon. The style will be similar yet very different.

Experiment - just like that - and let ideas circulate
Experiment – just like that – and let ideas circulate

Today we start with the silhouette of the Saab 92 / Ursaab, with the magical year 1947 and the place of birth. The shirt is eye-catching yet subtle, and it won't be easy to interpret for non-Saab insiders. And that is exactly what we had in mind.

Because anyone can convey obvious messages!

Local finishing of the t-shirts

We dropped our idea of getting the t-shirts from local, German production. The decision was not easy for us (Link), the shirts are now supplied by a manufacturer who was already selected at Saab Germany times. However, we have opted for local processing, which is not cheap financially, but has other advantages.

The quality is easier to monitor thanks to short delivery and communication channels, and it is also more sustainable – an overused word.

T-shirt production on demand

In fact, we have become a production on demand determined. We are back to the pre-order phase and only then release production. What is ordered is made, the T-shirt 1947 Trollhattan Born there will only be one in this variant.

The pre-order phase starts for 14 days in the coming week. We are currently still working on the size charts, delivery will start shortly thereafter.

A teaser at the end! You always need shirts, at least that's how I feel. And actually you can never have enough t-shirts from your favorite brand, right? For this reason, in addition to the emerging series, there will also be a basic collection. Saab shirts that will always be available in the shop as standard, in addition to the limited ideas.

Neat! 🙂 Will there also be a size for the female fans (so probably S or XS)? And is the – very sophisticated looking – color dark blue or black? I would very much vote for a dark blue variant (at least in the basic version), but this model is probably nocturn blue or midnight blue (???) anyway... 😉

It's just wonderful what you put in for effort in your free time! Thanks very much! In my opinion, the dryer test would not have been necessary, because who has such an environmental pig in the barn (!?). In any case, out of conviction, I have never owned (or missed) such a thing in my entire life. But the robust quality of the shirt will of course also survive the clothesline or the laundry rack and will last all the longer - very sustainable, great! 🙂

We start with size L, hence a size chart. If there is a need for smaller sizes, we will of course accommodate them. The 1947 shirt is a pilot project, we want to learn which sizes are actually in demand and in what quantity. Because parallel to the production we set up a warehouse with "raw goods" as a buffer.

The color is black, more variants will follow, midnight blue 😉 and a nice, fresh green are already on the sample table.

      environmental piggy

I think it's great that you don't have one in the barn. We have such a sow to my chagrin. Unfortunately, I couldn't make my way there...

The proportion of our electricity bill is significant. Then there is the wear and tear of clothing. It is not without reason that the devices have filters for fluff and fibers, which accumulate there in abundance...
In addition, there is always a shrunken textile that was not suitable at all, but got lost anyway. They all belong to the lady of the manor who insisted on a dryer and my condolences for their most recent and painful loss is limited to a shrug...

Why talk your mouth fuzzy now? The dryer does that itself 😉

But you'd be surprised how widespread dryers are. The answer to your question, who has such a thing, is probably: The majority of all German households!

For cramped spatial conditions, there have long been and in the umpteenth generation of combination devices, which combine washing machine and dryer in one device. This may all seem superfluous and regrettable, but it is nonetheless a reality.

But who is surprised? As a society, we have long since reinterpreted our growing hunger for electricity as an expression of environmental awareness. The drying rack competes with the tumble dryer and wind power competes with the forest. Never thought it possible that someone would say that the carbon footprint of a wind turbine is superior to that of a forest area. In fact, that's exactly what we're discussing right now. We're discussing which technology is superior to nature. Finally, we discuss the scenario of wind power and tumble dryer versus forest and drying rack...

That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but not as far-fetched as it should and should be...

Exactly! I consider the tumble dryer to be the most superfluous, “filthy” and most harmful household appliance of all. Here in the city center (for two) we have a 3-room apartment including a study, no storage room or even a utility room, no garden. Of course, the frame is sometimes a bit annoying if you can't go out on the balcony, but you can always find a place, and especially in winter the laundry (because of the heating) is dry in no time (and you don't need an extra humidifier). Also, I don't want to mess up my nice clothes. Even bed linen (with the right frame and hanging technique) is no problem at all. I would never have such a little pig in my house, out of conviction and because I don't need it. I would really like to know what percentage of dryer owners actually live in a 15 sqm 1 room apartment and have no space for a rack??? And how many of the dryer owners pretend to be climate friends, for example because they drive an oh-so-hip electric car (which consumes endless resources during production)? The main thing is that you can pretend and continue to think and live in luxury and feel great in a self-righteous way! It used to be called pharisaism! Oh my gosh, I'm getting angry again... 🙁

        Answer
        • blank

That would interest me too …

Or how climate glue hold it there? Stuck on a dirty street in the morning, just put the laundry in the dryer in the evening and the world is a little better again?

That is not excluded and the worldview seems to me to be overly electrified ...

In the discussion about (sufficient) living space, we have the phenomenon of simultaneously discussing less insulation (to reduce construction costs) and the type of heating at the same time. Ultimately, the equation is that the energy requirements of buildings are likely to increase again if they are mainly covered electrically.

Electricity is currently becoming a holy grail, it is supposedly always available in unlimited quantities and is environmentally neutral. Incidentally, this has already arrived in school books as the “truth” – provided with a side note that storage technology is still being worked on, but with great progress.

    Great idea with the t-shirts....

    Answer

Great idea to print the silhouettes with the year on the t-shirts. This raises questions for non-insiders 🙂
Personally, however, I would omit the Trollhättan lettering - less is more. In addition, I think the Ursaab is more connected to Linköping and the convertibles of the first two series with Uusikaupunki with Uusikaupunki 😉

    Answer
    • blank

Without the Trollhättan lettering, there is no visual balance. We have experimented accordingly and played with variants. And yes, Linköping plays a role, but the Saab 92 came from Trollhättan and the original Saab was hand-peeled at Göta Älv. So that fits. About Uusikaupunki, for convertibles, I have to think about it...

Looks really great, presumably there is a lot of effort behind it? The 1947 is not a standard font, that's for sure. I like it!

    Answer

      The effort was definitely high!
Stiftung Warentest goes Saabblog - test winner goes after various washes small series ...
The 1947 was definitely the easiest exercise along the way. But yes, she has something!
Either way, hats off to this meticulous commitment and recent addition to the shop. It's positive madness.

      Answer
    • blank

Yes, we've been working on this for months. The effort is not only in the design and quality control of the shirts, the production is also tricky. The 1947 needs manual weeding, but it looks good.

      Answer
      • blank

I hadn't even thought about that...
You really don't shy away from any effort or effort! The 1947 reminds me of old cinema films of certain genres of that time, of the opening credits and titles. There is something. And the genres fit perfectly with the Saab story 😉

        Answer
        • blank

We really don't shy away. It has to be fun, we have to like it ourselves and we have to want to wear it ourselves. Only then is it good. If the effort is a bit higher, then so be it.

But the fit is still important: slim, regular or loose...
I can not wait for it (-:

The comment from the fashion industry 😉 Thank you - I've learned a lot in the past few weeks (and am still learning more). The fit is regular.
