Our focus is naturally also on permanent improvements and additions to the offering. What could Saab people enjoy, what would make sense, where are there gaps that we should close? Admittedly, it's not particularly difficult; we drive a Saab ourselves and live the brand. Some ideas come almost by themselves.

The Saab High Mileage Club has some gaps in its offering, right from the start. We know this, but sometimes it's just that we don't have the time to change things. What takes a long time sometimes leads to successful evolution - and that's the case here too.

In the future, we will also award long holding periods; the preparations in the background are already well advanced.

In fact, there are several factions of Saab drivers. Some collect kilometers and are happy that their Saab is still in such good shape after 20 years and 400.000 kilometers. They are excited about its longevity and are looking forward to many more kilometers.

Then there is the not-so-small group that moves the Saab only a little, but with particular enjoyment. It's usually the convertibles that have it particularly good. They spend the winter sheltered in halls and garages, which are sometimes even heated. In 10, 20 or 30 years, a few kilometers will be accumulated, from the awards of the Saab High Mileage Club (Link), whose first stage starts at 250.000, they are light years away.

We would also like to acknowledge them, because every Saab that remains with us is to be welcomed. Even though it only moves a few kilometers, it keeps the small Swedish cult brand alive. We are working on high-quality stickers with a metal look for a long shelf life and today we would have the opportunity to have a say in what we should put into production.

The question is, where should we start? Is a 5-year holding period already remarkable, or do we only start at 10 years? Is 20 years realistic, would 25 years also be an issue? Or is that going too far?

  • There were three MY99 1980s in my first ownership that were put into circulation through Scancars Switzerland as liquidation vehicles in the following years 81 and 82. In the early to mid 90s I deliberately put these aside to wait for the classic car to get old. Two have since been repaired and sold to enthusiasts. Now there is only one left in my original possession, which I am now restoring in order to put it back into circulation and will remain in my possession. As is the case in Saab life, many come, some go and few stay.

  • I also think the stickers for the inside of the window are great. Cannot be removed and is sure to last longer.

    • That would be a completely different sticker. We placed emphasis on metallic structures and feel in addition to the high-quality appearance.

      Sticked on a sticker from the inside against the window - it's just a sticker. Easy and inexpensive to make.

      But perhaps we as a team generally think too much (unnecessary) about the little details that we love so much.

  • I would also like 10 years, that actually works relatively well in Saab circles.
    I particularly like the Saabs in Austria that still have a black license plate (you can read more about the Austrian black license plates on the internet). Every now and then I've seen a 9000, a 96ger and on Facebook I've seen a 900 Convertible and a 99 Turbo. But I don't know whether they know the Saabblog and whether they want to continue to be known. I have seen a 9000 with an old one without an EU license plate, i.e. one that has been registered for over 20 years with the same registration holder at the same registration location.

  • I think 10 years is a good start. Especially since the SAAB has certainly already experienced a lot.

    For example, the first “dream car” after starting the job, having children and still not selling it ;), family vacations and moving – just an automobile family member.

  • I think the idea of ​​the long ownership period is good, but I agree with Ebasli when it comes to the age of the vehicle. This should be as much of a focus as the length of ownership.
    My 9-3 OG is 22 years old, but I've only been the owner for four years. This would mean I wouldn't have the benefit of being able to document sustainability in practice to the outside world 🙁
    Finding a solution or an idea would be great.

    • The age of the vehicle can be made an issue - but we have to approach it completely differently.

      And maybe with other stickers as a statement. The current stickers in the High Mileage Club are quite complex (and expensive) to produce, we wanted a high quality product.

      By focusing on vehicle age, we would increase the range of possible vehicles by a factor of X, so these stickers would no longer be affordable.

      • So, I would also be happy to pay something for a sticker based on the age of the Saab. This is also the case with other stickers from the Aero-X shop. So there are three requirements: old vehicle, Aero-X Club membership and a fee. Wouldn't that be possible?

In addition to the “old hands” among us who have been enjoying their treasures for 10 years or more, there are also the newcomers to the Saab camp who will have fun with them and are sure to have a little motivation with a view to the first Stickers (5 years) are happy….   • This approach is extremely welcome and sensible. Especially for those who, like me, have project cars that are scrubbed on 50.000 km a year, just so that none of the Saabs have to do it... you can't collect that many km and maybe you don't want to have the 250k on the clock so quickly …

  • I think that's really great! When I soon – with a very heavy heart – put my night blue “Cassiopeia” (9-3 SC TTiD, “daily driver”) with almost 200.000 km against the – happily anticipated – laser red “Trixie” (ditto, but BioPower) with less than 65.000 km, I can be sure that I will never achieve the mileage to be awarded. This is also because I drive less and hardly ever in the city (even though longer tours with Trixie or the convertible are planned, for example to France).

    I think five years is a bit too little, we Saab fans almost all achieve that straight away (I would have already had both), but ten sounds like a good lower limit - because compared to the “ex-and-hop mentality” of them This is very sustainable and commendable for the annual new car buyer! Even with my 2012 convertible, I'll be there in four years - assuming that the campaign will still be available then (hopefully!).

    But you do realize that you won't be able to keep up with printing stickers and reporting on new inductees into the “Hall of Fame,” right? Many readers have certainly had their respective treasures for ten years.

    And please state the year as a number and not written out.

    I also have an idea: Couldn't we perhaps also mark the year of construction or registration? It is also a special achievement, for example, to lovingly keep a 20-year-old Saab “alive” and save it from being scrapped, even if you have only owned it for three years (and saved it from being scrapped).

    I once saw a 9-3 OG at a Saab meeting with a sticker: “LONG-TERM CAR” and small underneath: “In operation for decades. Sustainability and resource conservation? Running." This goes in the same direction and I liked it.

    • The numbers as a number – we have already decided that. The signaling is simply better, we experimented with the design.

      The rush will be limited because the High Mileage Club is very consciously part of the Aero X membership. That limits the circle considerably; if everything were free, we probably wouldn't be able to handle it.

  • An award for 30 years would be nice, my first Saab, a black 900 turbo 16V Coupé, has been with me for exactly 30 years this year. Since then, he has been given many other Saab models as his daily driver, and they have come and gone again. I still feel sorry for two of them, a 900 i Sedan and a 9000 CS 2,3t, that I gave them away (in “youthful” carelessness)!

    • That's surprising - we had discussed the topic extensively and were convinced that hardly anyone would reach the age of 30.

      • Well, I've already had 30 years of holding my Saab 900i behind me. Therefore, a level at 35 years would be the ideal recognition. Would also provide a nice motivation to aim for a “golden holding period”.

          • I already wrote about it above with the old and even black license plates, they haven't been around since 1990 and therefore haven't been around for 34 years, any change in registration would have resulted in a new license plate, so these cars have had to be there since then be with the same owner. There is also the Schwarzblechfahrer page on Facebook. But they probably don't read the blog and other brands are not relevant to the blog. I also have a family in my circle of friends who are the first owners of a 1 Series Golf with the black license plates.
